About Essilor Ltd
Providing the best eyecare in partnership with independent opticians
Improving lives by improving sight in partnership with independent eye care professionals
To see is widely considered as the most important sense we have as human beings. Our mission is to help correct and protect vision needs of individuals in partnership with independent eye care professionals.
Together, we’re on a path to success.
Today any independent optician can transform their practice by growing their patient database using our innovative lenses, powerful instruments and business enhancing services.
Innovation is key to our mission
An optical lens is a technological product. It is essential for us to continue innovating. We do this by investing £170 million worldwide into R&D. By enriching all levels of our product range, from personalised lenses to virtual reality demonstration tools, we provide effective solutions to independent opticians to address evolving patient needs.
For the fifth year in a row, Essilor was ranked on Forbes magazine’s ‘Most Innovative Companies’ list.
Essilor was featured on Fortune magazine’s first-ever ‘Change the World’ list, where companies are recognised for ‘doing well by doing good’.
Raising awareness & philanthropic initiatives
The importance of visual health is not widely understood. To raise awareness, Essilor developed the Vision Impact Institute, a non-profit organisation that collects global scientific data on visual health. Its goal is to consolidate this research and share it with policymakers and the general public in order to raise awareness of the socio-economic impact of poor vision.
We are committed to providing good vision to people who need it the most. We reinvest a proportion of our profits into global philanthropic initiatives. This commitment takes many forms: lens donations, vision screenings, awareness campaigns and fundraising. As an independent eye care professional working with Essilor, you are helping those with vision needs to receive accessible eye-care.
Essilor was formed in 1972 with the amalgamation of two French companies Essel and Silor. Essilor has had a presence in Britain since 1881 when Société des Lunetiers opened its British operation in Hatton Garden, London. It maintained a presence in the city until 1975 when the company moved its offices and production facilities to Thornbury, near Bristol.
